BUSINESSGC READY TO WEAR 2011

6 months has gone past... can you believe it? According to my time “feeling” counter it should only be February, not June! But alas, winter is well upon us and the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show has come and gone which means Sanctuary Cove’s week of Fashion has now come and gone too and what a week it was! From the students of the Australian Institute of Creative Design to the superstar of fashion Alex Perry, this week had it all.

But today of course I am going to talk about the BusinessGC Ready to Wear showcase! This show was a milestone in my fashion blogging history as this was the very first runway show I ever covered as a fashion blogger and I was very happy that walking up the red carpet and into the gorgeous temporary marquee yielded the same super nervous yet super excited and enthusiastic feelings I felt last year! No doubt, I do love my fashion events!

Although this year, to be honest, I almost felt like a super star! I know over my year of fashion blogging I must have done something right as I could walk up to the owner of FashionTV and his wife and greet them like old friends! I could go up and say hi to the designers, most of whom I now know personally, and tell them how excited I am to see what they have created for this years show! Give an excited mini leap and run up to the socialites and models there who I can now call my friends! Wow, what a year it has been and what magnificent people I have met along the way! Needless to say I was extremely happy to be there! With the lovely and talented Jamie Lee Wilson as our host the stage was set!

It was quite different to last year but gorgeous none the less and it had AMAZING lighting! Naturally FashionTV were there to help give our local designers a big push into the international world of fashion! The labels showing this year were-
Alexandra Leeb
Daedreamer
Lisa Brown
Leina Broughton
JANIN
No Formula
East of Grey
Lara's Treasures
and 5 Australian Institute of Creative Design students Tania Tuetue, Cynthia Coetzer, Julian Napier, Rheya Minard, Sara Hultman.
Now I dont want to babble on too long because I managed to enlist the help of amazing photographer Michael Lobb so I would like to give you more pictures than words and considering all of the designers produced such amazing pieces I have put in quite a few pictures! Enjoy!

First up was Alexandra Leeb. Alexandra had some gorgeous and innovative yet unobtrusive cuts. The textures were soft and feminine and the pallet reminded me of 'The Birth of Venus" by Sandro Botticelli. Very feminine, very soft and very beautiful.

Next up was JANIN by the lovely Aneta Rycomble. Some of Aneta's pieces had so much going on that you can see the real thought and craftsmanship that has gone into each garment! Although so much was in each piece they did not appear 'busy' they just appeared... intricate and classy yet comfortable... without skimping on the style!

No Formula by Sonja Maus I would have to say was probably my favourite for the night. I loved almost every single piece and loved the easy yet sexy style. Her pieces were not over complicated but they stood out and were really gorgeous. I would love to see last years Miss Universe runner up and Miss Congeniality Jesinta Campbell model these clothes as it is reminiscent of her personal style. Simple. Sexy. Classy. Stylish!

East of Grey by Kim Bailey was a very late entrant into the showcase and Kim had a very small window to get her collection runway ready but she pulled it off! Kim's collection was gorgeous and very Olsen twins A lister boho chic!

Onto more boho chic with Daedreamer by Kathryn Edmonds and Penelope Day. This collection makes me want to scream for summer! Lazy days at the beach and strolling through parks and botanical gardens but then most of the pieces are easily transferable to night with their easy and versatile summer elegance! Each garment has a certain ease about it that reminds me of a late summers afternoon and with that ease comes versatility so it could easily be incorporated into any wardrobe.

The Australian Institue of Creative Design does produce some talented designers and again this night was no exception. I always get a bit nervous about 'student' showcases because the initial response you get from your very first showcase can make or break your confidence and enthusiasm for your career and after holding my breath for almost the whole AICD's showcase... at the end I breathed a sigh of relief and was very impressed as these students produced some gorgeous pieces that were well thought out and produced beautiful results! Well done to Tania Tuetue, Cynthia Coetzer, Julian Napier, Rheya Minard, Sara Hultman. I do not know whose garments are whose but I do know that they were all lovely. From high waisted classics and daring cuts to fluro and floral!

As I am sitting here writing this I am wearing one of Leina Broughton's pieces. It's usually a gorgeous summer dress but I've turned it into a loose fitting T-shirt over jeans for winter and I must say it does look pretty awesome! That is just one of the reasons I have always loved Leina Broughton Designs- because of the versatility. I've really never known how to describe Leina's pieces. I think I once said they were reminiscent of Mela Purdie but I take that back because I'm not the biggest fan of hers but I do love Leina Broughton! The best way I can put it is- Resort Wear meets 'the real world'. They are pieces that you look forward to wearing on your summer vacation but you can also incorporate the pieces into your every day life, be it work or lunch with the girls! Her pieces are beautiful, unique and in a league of their own.

I'm personally not the biggest fan of seeing jewellery on the runway because... well, you just can't SEE it! It's hard to show a collection of jewellery on the runway because people are far away and you always have such a small amount of time to showcase so much that sometimes it just does not work. At least with these pictures you can actually see the jewellery and get an idea of Lara's Treasures but you have to see them and try them on to do them the justice they deserve!

And finally last but not least, the Gold Coast's Golden Girl of Fashion- Lisa Brown. Lisa Brown needs no introduction by now and she has managed to reinvent her collection beautifully while managing to keep her signature style in there. Her dresses are light, flowy, beautiful and feminine!

All in all it was another amazing BusinessGC Ready to Wear showcase and I feel so privileged to see these designers go from strength to strength. They are all inspiring and creative people who do what they do for the love of it and it certainly shows! Well done everyone!
